Tourist guide in Segovia
Hello, I’m Sonia Tapias Calvo, an official tour guide in Segovia since 2016. My interest in this profession began with my degree in Art History in 2009. Years later, I completed a vocational course in Tourist Guiding, Information, and Assistance. It was during my internship at the Alcázar that I discovered I could share my passion and knowledge through guided tours. The following year, I created my own brand: Castellum. Over the years, I have expanded my training with courses, seminars, and exhibitions to continue learning and updating my knowledge, as history and heritage are not static and there is always something new to discover.
I collaborate with various experts in disciplines such as anthropology, history, and archaeology to create themed and focused tours. Having a comprehensive view always enriches the experience and our understanding of heritage.
Being part of a community and society requires commitment, to foster a positive environment that benefits everyone. I'll recommend local shops and restaurants, which will help boost the economy, contribute to sustainable tourism, and make your visit a more personal experience. Don't hesitate to ask me anything.
In my guided tours, I incorporate women's history as a fundamental part of the city's narrative. Through female figures—both those who held power and influence and those who were part of everyday life and remained anonymous—we broaden our perspective on the past. Learning about their experiences helps us better understand how people lived and how we got to where we are today.
Pets are part of our families for many of us, so I'll try to make sure they can join us on visits whenever possible. You can ask me for information about pet-friendly places in the city.
On each of my tours, I dedicate all my energy and expertise to ensuring everyone enjoys their experience. Prior communication between us, addressing any special requests or needs, is essential to guaranteeing the highest quality. Respect for all participants, regardless of their background, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation, is a fundamental principle of my tours.
Awareness of our impact on the environment is also a crucial part of Castellum’s values. We always try to reuse provided materials (sanitized when needed) to reduce single‑use plastics. Additionally, to coexist well with citizens and neighbors, we avoid overcrowding and encourage sustainable tourism through small groups.
